CRN Member Awarded Largest Hospital Census Relocation in the United States.
Crown Worldwide Moving and Storage was awarded the Laguna Honda Replacement Project, a San Francisco Healthcare and Hospital Relocation. Crown will relocate 780 seniors and disabled adults who live at San Francisco’s Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center on December 7th and 8th, 2010.
Laguna Honda is an acute care skilled nursing facility, and will vacate their 1920’s-era buildings and move into the most modern skilled nursing facility in the United States – right next door. The move is a momentous event in the life of Laguna Honda, which has been a civic icon since 1866 when it opened to care for the Gold Rush pioneers.
Crown received 11 million dollars of Furniture, Fixture and equipment (FF&E) in advance of the move. The FF&E was scanned into Crown’s asset management inventory system, assembled, stored, transported, delivered and installed at the new hospital.
Phase One:
Crown delivered, assembled, placed and installed once the new hospital was released for population of the project.
Phase Two:
Crown will be moving all hospital departments including patient belongings. Total amount of inventory moving exceeds 10,000 pieces. The new site is 500,000 square feet, 17 total floors and totals nearly one billion dollars in construction costs.
Phase Three:
Crown will providing the decommissioning services for the current hospital, clearing the floors and removing the older furniture and contents to make way for a new parking structure on the existing site.
The duration of this project will span over 12 months and will have involved 6 Crown project managers (PM), 10 installers, and 50 movers. Crown will service the movement of the Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) and will perform the seismic floor and wall anchoring of specialized equipment. Crown has conducted packing sessions for the nursing staff tasked with packing the residents personal belongings, estimated at 6,800 boxes. Crown’s PM’s worked in concert with Criterion Systems, a premier health care management company, as well as the City of San Francisco’s Laguna Honda Hospital Project Manager & staff, performing this very challenging move. Crowns is proud of its accomplishments on this project, and believe that it is an indication of its ever expanding commercial moving and installation division’s capabilities and presence in the marketplace.
